Transgenerational effects of fetal growth restriction

چکیده
Methods A cross-sectional study examining parents-first-born offspring pairs. First, 200 FGR neonates (defined as birthweight < 10th according to local standards) and 200 normally grown (AGA, birthweight 10th-90th centile) were identified from delivery books from 1975-1993. Current contact data was retrieved from the database of the Catalan health system. Perinatal data from an eventual first-born-offspring was obtained through telephone questionnaire. The relationships between the parents’ and the child's birth characteristics were estimated using multivariate quantile regression regression analysis.

Fetal growth and developmental programming.
The environment in utero and in early neonatal life may induce a permanent response in the fetus and the newborn, leading to enhanced susceptibility to later diseases. This review concentrates on the role and mechanisms of events during the antenatal and immediate postnatal period resulting in later life diseases, concentrating on abnormal growth patterns of the fetus. Fetal overgrowth is relat...
متن کاملComparison of Maternal Serum and Umbilical Cord Blood Leptin Level in IUGR Neonates
Background: Gestational weight gain is an impressive factor in the fetal outcome. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is one of the most important problems during fetal period that may lead to many perinatal and long-term complications and growing neonatal morbidities and mortalities. The aim of the study was to ascertain the relationship between umbilical cord blood leptin concentration and...
متن کاملI-46: Color Doppler Assessment in IUGR
Background Fetal growth restriction is the second leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. The incidence of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is estimated to be approximately 5 percent in the general obstetric population. Abnormal uterine artery suggest a maternal cause for the growth restriction where as normal uterine artery Doppler studies suggest that a fetal cause. Use of u...
متن کاملThe effect of aspirin on preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction (FGR) in obese pregnant women : a randomized controlled clinical trial
Background: To evaluate the effect of aspirin on preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction (FGR) in obese pregnant women. Methods: A randomized clinical trial with 187 participants. Participants were allocated to either an intervention (aspirin; n=89) or control (placebo; n=98) group. In two groups, intervention was done from 13-20 until 34 weeks of pregnancy. Outcomes were preeclampsia and FG...
متن کاملFetal Alcohol Growth Restriction and Cognitive Impairment.
BACKGROUND Although both fetal and long-term growth restriction are well documented in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, effects on pattern of growth trajectory have not been characterized. Furthermore, the degree to which growth trajectories are related to fetal alcohol-related neurocognitive deficits is unknown. METHODS Ninety-three heavy drinking pregnant women and 64 controls were recruit...
